Minting
Minting
We moved to L2 minting during my time, this was also slight part of the abilities, as we wanted to have a proper minting system to signify the different rarities of items and abilities.
This project only ended with mockups, and only L2 minting stayed a feature.
Understanding minting
Minting is a complex way of adding items to a game. This is essentially what makes an NFT an NFT, and overall what gives the ownership of the item to a person.
Our way of using minting would be to let the user mint different items and let them set the value. The abilities (currently the stats) would then be rolled based on the rarity of the minting. The rarity would be decided by the creator.
It's a bit like minting a coin, by pressing that coin, you will have different prints from the machine that minted it. If it prints deeper shapes, those shapes will have more "fingerprints" from the machine
UI
This UI was a very early version of an idea using minting a bit more like Lootboxes. The idea was to create engagement for the users, and let them reveal the different abilities. It would also highlight the strongest attribute/stat of the item.
There would definitely need more pizzaz to make it better for the user, but systems such as this is often seen in Card games, such as Yu-Gi-Oh Masters.
Animation
Of course, you can't have a proper lootbox experience without a bit of an animation.
The idea here was if the user forged a new item, or the item could change color based on rarity, the sword would be somewhat hidden in this case. Unfortunately that was decided against based on the users designing the equipment themselves, and we wanted to give complete ownership.
In this version, the minting would happen by the designer of the weapon, and as such they would have to slot in the rarity gem, and that would change color. The theme of the little platform was inspired by a microchip, and would change based on the idea behind the equipment.
E.g a city-themed sword, would be a city-themed chipslot.

Final takeaways
In the end, this project will be pushed into future. We did not have capacities to keep working on it, and too many gamedesign subjects needed to be discussed. The L2 minting was produced, with the dashboard having a early version of this, but capabilities for the Gameclient are currently not there and currently lacks a marketplace.
Therefore this project was postponed to the future.
